Emotions Discussed

The techniques I use as a Human Software Engineer when working with a persons emotional problems and their early human conditioning is vastly different than contemporary therapy.  The following are excerpts from an article written by Tom Stone.  It provides insight into the reasons for the extraordinary success people report when working with Human Software Engineering procedures and practices.

It is clear to me that these Human Software Engineering techniques are not about “getting rid” of unwanted emotions.  It is much better to consider this in new ways.  I would suggest that we view these techniques as ways of 1) either the completing of the experience of incomplete emotional energy from the past (CORE Technique), and 2) extracting yourself from identification with stories, expectations, projections, attachments and their associated emotional reactions (SEE Technique).

There seem to be two types of emotions.  The first are emotions that are held in our bodies that are incomplete experiences from the past.  The body seems to create these kinds of emotions for a purpose.  I believe that these kinds of emotions are created by the body to bring us information, direct experiences from which we gain experiential wisdom about life.  These are not experiences to be gotten rid of.  It is only our conditioning of Resisting Feeling Things Fully that causes us to fear being overwhelmed by the feeling that has us interpret them as unwanted.  Once you learn and master the CORE technique you will have upgraded your inner human software to be able to Feel Things Fully.  Then you won’t have to fear that emotions are going to overwhelm you, and your attitude towards them can shift from “getting rid of them” to completing them.  This is a huge shift!

The second category of emotions are the kind that get created in reaction to stories that we make up in our minds, and then live inside of as if they are real.  There are two basic sub-types within this kind of emotion.  They are expectations and projections.  Expectations are stories that we make up in our mind about how we think, hope or want life to show up.  Projections are the kind of stories that we make up about what we fear might happen in the future.  Both of these have a story that is the basis of the emotional reaction associated with the story.

If you expect someone to treat you a certain way and then they don’t, typically you will have an emotional reaction of disappointment or anger.  If you are projecting possible negative outcomes onto the future, the emotion is the fear that you won’t be able to handle it if the thing you fear happens.  In both cases these are not old incomplete emotions from the past.  They are emotional reactions that are new every time you have them.  Each time you experience this kind of emotion it is because you are so absorbed in your story that the story and the associated emotion feel very real.  They are not real.  The events don’t exist anywhere except in your mind.  But they feel as if they are real because we are so absorbed in and identified with the story.

So the distinction between completing incomplete emotional experiences and extracting yourself from the energy of the emotions associated with unmet expectations and projections of possible negative outcomes onto the future is an important distinction to grasp.  If you approach disruptive emotions with the attitude of getting rid of them, you will very likely do the opposite while trying to force them to go away.  You will actually stuff them deeper inside of you only to have them surface later or even worse turn into an organic disease.

The CORE and SEE techniques are an awesome combination for freeing yourself from incompletions and identifications so you can have the life you really want, a life that is a pure and powerful expression of your essential self, and not just a product of your conditioning.
